West Suburban Women's Club.

Hide Profile

The West Suburban Women's Club was organized in 1957 as the Junior Woman's Club of Hopkins/Minnetonka. It was incorporated in 1974, and pursued home and family study and was engaged in philanthropic work. The club met monthly for a luncheon and to hear speakers on women's health, the arts, education, home life, public affairs, conservation, international affairs, and other topics. It raised funds to support community causes in western Hennepin County, making contributions to such organizations as women's shelters, senior dining programs, food shelves, teen coffee houses, youth hockey and figure skating programs, autism programs, and safe teen driving programs. It was one of seventy clubs in Minnesota and was affiliated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, an international group of women's clubs organized in 1890 with a legacy of volunteering and supporting communities. In 2009 the name of the organization was changed to GFWC - West Suburban Women's Club.
