Ivins family
Variant namesWilliam Mills Ivins, Sr. (1851-1915) was a lawyer and municipal reformer in New York City. He held several city offices, served as counsel for Brazil in a boundary dispute with Argentina, was a founder of the Reform Club, and wrote about municipal problems and the history and theory of the law.
William Mills Ivins, Jr. (1881-1961) was the first curator of prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City from 1917 to 1946, associate director of the museum from 1933 to 1938, and acting director from 1938 to 1940. He was the author of many articles and books on prints, printmaking and the book arts.
