Moved to Erie County from Washington County in 1835. Lived in East Hamburg for several years, serving as justice of the peace and postmaster. Twice elected surrogate of Erie County; elected member of N.Y.S. Assembly in 1860. His son Warren served as an officer with the 116th N.Y. Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, with the 74th Regiment National Guard after the war, and was a clerk in Erie County Surrogate's Court.
