Graduated from Eugene Divinity School in 1901. After serving as a pastor in several rural communities in Oregon and Washington, Benton returned to Eugene to serve on the staff of Eugene Bible University and as editor of Church and School and World Evangel. Eugene Divinity School changed its name to Eugene Bible University in 1908 and in 1930 became Eugene Bible College.
