O. H. (Oscar Hugh) Bakeless was a graduate of the Bloomsburg [Pennsylvania] Normal School (ca. 1878) and Lafayette College (ca. 1890). He was a teacher and principal at a number of Pennsylvania schools, and was the principal of the Academic Department of the United States Indian Industrial School at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, from ca. 1890 until he accepted the position as head of the Department of Theory and Practice of Teaching at the Bloomsburg State Normal School in 1902.
