Mowerson, G. Robert

G. Robert "Bob" Mowerson was born on 17 November 1913 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1937 and master's degree in 1945 from the University of Michigan. Mowerson was a high school coach and physical education instructor in Battle Creek, Michigan for 18 years. He then went on to coach the swim team, and teach physical education, at Michigan State University (1957-1962). In 1962, Mowerson came to the University of Minnesota as assistant professor and swim coach. Mowerson served as chairman of the NCAA swimming record committee (1967-1976), the National A.A.U. swimming administrative committee (1973-1975) and the Olympic Swimming Trials (1969-1976). In 1971, Mowerson was named coach of the U.S. Pan American swim team, which won a gold medal. He retired from the University of Minnesota in 1975. Bob Mowerson died in February 1993.
