Pana, Springfield and North Western Railroad Company.
Commissioners of the company started selling stock in April 1865 in order to raise the money to buy land and build the planned railroad from Pana to Springfield, Illinois. Gen. John A. McClernand, who was chosen chairman of the first meeting, was not chosen for the board of directors. Members of the board of included Charles Matheny, George N. Black, Jacob Bunn and Alexander Starne. In December 1866 the company was selling the land it had bought to repay the stockholders.
