James Marr was born c1877 in Mauchline, East Ayrshire, Scotland . He first matriculated at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1893 aged 16, taking classes in Greek, Latin and Mathematics. The following year he studied Logic and English Literature and in the 1895-1896 session he attended classes in Hebrew, Moral Philosophy and History, being taught History by Sir Richard Lodge (1855-1936), the University's first professor of History. In his final session of 1896-1897 he studied English and Hebrew. He graduated in 1896 and became a minister in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He appears to have died c1955 .
