Tallmadge, Abby Louise.
Evanston, Illinois, Jane Austen scholar and sister of Chicago architect Thomas Eddy Tallmadge.
Born in Evanston in 1878 and the recipient of a Ph. D. from Northwestern in 1935 (thesis on Jane Austen), Abby Tallmadge maintained a lifelong correspondence with Austen scholars, particulary Robert W. Chapman, an English editor and Oxford University publisher, and George Knight, an Austen descendent.
