George Nicholas was born around 1743 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He migrated to Kentucky in 1788, and became a leader for Kentucky statehood. He was a member of the select committee that drafted the State Constitution. Nicholas served as the first Attorney General, but resigned in 1793 to practice law and manage his estate.
