Daniel Webster (1782-1852), statesman, was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College, studied law, and was admitted to the bar. He served several terms as Congressman from New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He was also a senator from Massachusetts. He was appointed Secretary of State in 1850 and served until his death.
