Freese, William W.

William W. Freese was born on Nov. 5, 1841, the son of Jeremiah and Matilda Freese of Argyle, Maine. During the Civil War, he was a member of Company A of the 22nd Maine Infantry Regiment. He married Melissa A. Grant on July 31, 1863. The 22nd Regiment, organized in Bangor, Maine, was mustered in on Oct. 18, 1862 and mustered out on Aug. 14, 1863. It moved from Maine to Virginia to Louisiana and saw engagements at Franklin and Port Hudson, Louisiana in 1863.
