Christian T. Pedersen was born in Norway. In 1894, he left for a bowhead whaling voyage. Thereafter, he worked as a ship's storekeeper, boatsteerer, and harpooner. He later commanded a number of whaling or trading ships in Arctic waters. He was involved in coastal Alaskan and Arctic trading, especially fur trading (1923-1936). Pedersen was vice-president and manager of the Northern Whaling and Trading Company, manager of the Canalaska Trading Company, proprieter of the Barnston Fur Farm, and was involved in other businesses. He also wrote a number of articles concerning his adventures.
