Montefiore Medical Center, an acute-care general hospital, was founded in 1884 as the Montefiore Home for Chronic Invalids, later changing its name to the Montefiore Home for Chronic Diseases (1913), and becoming the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in the 1960s.
