Nashville Defense Program. Citizens Defense Corps and Citizens Service Corps.
Tennessee began preparing for World War II when Governor Prentice Cooper appointed the State Advisory Committee on Preparedness, later named "the State Defense Council." Local defense councils such as the Nashville Defense Program were then organized under the guidance of this committee and the National U.S. Civil Defense Office. The State Defense Council was terminated after the war ended in 1945.
