Lutheran World Federation. Dept. of Studies.

Hide Profile

The successor body of the Lutheran World Convention (1923-1947), LWF was founded in 1947 as an international, free association of Lutheran churches dedicated to fostering world-wide Lutheran cooperation and unity in faith, mission, study, and ecumenical participation. The LWF's Department of Studies produced study guides, consulation reports, study project summaries, and newsletters to instigate discussion among and facilitate studies of its national committees' member churches. The U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC) was administered by the National Lutheran Council's Executive Committee (1947-

1966); as a separate body (1967-1976); and as Lutheran World Ministries (1977-1987). In 1987, LWM was terminated and USANC responsibilities were assumed by the Office/Department for Ecumenical Affairs of the newly created Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
