Albert Hemstock Hodge was born in Scotland in 1875. He studied architecture at the Glasgow School of Art where he regularly won local and national prizes for modelling and architectural design. Turning his attention to sculpture, he executed work for major buildings in England, Scotland, Wales and Canada.
Among his commissions for sculpture is the Scott Memorial in Devonport, dedicated to the polar party who perished on the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). Hodge died on 27 January 1918.
