Sigma Nu. Epsilon Kappa Chapter

Hide Profile

The Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Sigma Nu was installed at the University of North Dakota on June 13, 1923 when the local fraternity, Synergoi Fraternity, sought affiliation with a national fraternity. Traditional Fraternity rituals included "stool night" and Armistice Day observance (later changed to Memorial Day observance). On "stool night", the faults of an individual pledge or member were discussed and improvement was encouraged. During Armistice/Memorial Day observance the Chapter attended church as a body. Each member wore a white rose to honor Sigma Nu men who had died during wartime. The Chapter often engaged in philanthropy, intramural sports, and campus politics. Philanthropic efforts included fundraising for and volunteering at the Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital, donating to various charities, and providing holiday dinners for poor children in the community. Intramural sports included football, softball, volleyball, and basketball. Political activities included student election campaigns and Chapter members have occupied the offices of student senator, student representative, student body vice-president, and student body president.
