Geological and Mining Society of American Universities. Louisiana State University Section.

Hide Profile

The "Rock Hounds," an organization for geology students, was organized at Louisiana State University in 1922 and received a charter from the Geological and Mining Society of American Universities as its Louisiana Section in 1925. Its object was to maintain the ethical standards of the professions of geology and petroleum engineering, promote friendship among the students and faculty, and bring students into contact with successful men of their profession. The geologists and the G & M Society accepted the petroleum engineers without reservation and included them in all the ritual and ceremony that accompanied membership in the society. A committee of the G & M Society handled all infringements of the honor system on which examinations in the professional courses of the School of Geology were conducted.
