Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of History through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among Historians. The Beta Psi Chapter at the The University of Montana-Missoula (at that time called Montana State University) was chartered in 1948 as the Society’s 71st Chapter. Membership is open to students of all majors, as long as they have completed at least twelve credits in History with a 3.00 History GPA, and hold a creditable record in other fields.
