Bookbinder, Jack, 1911-1990

Born in Odessa, Ukraine in 1911, Jack Bookbinder immigrated to the United States and earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He continued his education and earned a MFA from the Tyler School of Art. Known as an illustrator and watercolorist, Bookbinder taught art at the Barnes Foundation, University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He authored many books and articles, and produced and appeared in several television series about art and artists. Bookbinder's work is held in many collections, including the Library of Congress, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and National Gallery of Art. Jack Bookbinder died in June 1990.
