Frederick A. Zeusler was born in Maryland. He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1911. His career included sea duty in the Bering Sea, Arctic Ocean, and North Atlantic Ice Patrols. He served as an oceanographer, navigator, executive officer, and captain. Zeusler also was a lecturer at the University of Washington, and an instructor at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He was a commander of the Ketchikan District and Alaska subsector (1940-1944). He retired in 1946 with the rank of rear admiral. Later, Zeusler worked for the Alaska Steamship Company. He died in California.
