Belding, Lyman, 1829-1917.
Ornithologist.
Born 1829 in West Farms, Massachussetts. He spent many years on whaling ships but became fascinated by birds in 1876 and became a foremost authority on the avifauna of California and Baja California. In 1889 wrote "Song Notes of Birds." He became a resident member of California Academy of Sciences in 1889. Died on November 22, 1917 in Stockton, California.
