William C. Haynes was born in New York on August 17, 1912. He earned a B.S. from Cornell in 1935, and a Ph.D. in Bacteriology in 1946. He was employed at the New York Experiment Station in Geneva from 1935-1941, and at the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service from 1941 until his retirement in 1975.
