Leighly, John, 1895-1986

In 1927, John Leighly was the first Ph.D. to graduate from the Department of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley. He was associated with the University for more than sixty-two years. Professor Leighly died at the age of ninety at his home in Berkeley, California on July 9, 1986.

Katherine Edmonds Leighly received her Bachelors of Arts degree in 1925, Masters Degree of Arts in Botany in 1929, and her Library degree on May 11, 1933 (all degrees from University of California Berkeley). She also worked as a Librarian at University of California Berkeley from 1937-1955.
