Wesley F. Buchele, a native of Kansas, received his B.S. (1943) in Agricultural Engineering from Kansas State University; his M.S. (1951) in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Arkansas; and his Ph. D (1954) in Agricultural Engineering and Soil Physics from Iowa State University. Buchele served in the U.S. Army (1943-1946) and was also employed as an engineer by John Deere Waterloo Works (1946-1948) and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas (1948-1951).

Buchele was a Graduate Assistant (1951-1954) and Assistant Professor (1954-1956) at Iowa State University (ISU); and Associate Professor (1956-1963) at the Michigan State University; and a Full Professor (1963-1989) at ISU. He was granted numerous patents and originated many courses on agricultural safety.
