See GS 16 Administrative History.

The Board of Trustees of the Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society (WHFMS) was created by the WHFMS Executive Committee in1884 to be in accordance with the State of Ohio incorporation laws. Its first meeting occurred in October 1884. It comprised the same people as the Executive Committee and had the elected offices of president, vice president, recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer. Eventually both secretarial offices were held by one person. The board had its annual meeting, as required by law, the first Monday in January or at the discretion of the board president. It also met throughout the year, with its meetings occurring on the same day as the Executive Committee.

The Board of Trustees was responsible for duties related to WHFMS incorporation, but its primary duties involved financial matters related to various WHFMS mission support projects. It handled financial matters involving investment and disbursal of funds collected for the establishment of mission congregations, and it dealt with the financing of mission improvement and general support projects. It was responsible for securing mortgages from churches to which it lent money. It obtained the WHFMS corporate seal and secured a safety deposit box for vital WHFMS documents.
