In 2005 Arcadia Press, with the guidance of Dr. Michael Batinski, began collecting materials for a "campus history series" and published the book of photographs and memories from 1940 to the present in 2006. This history focuses on the changes in student life during six decades at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, including fashions and fads, homecoming parades and politics, housing and hangouts. The primary research done for the classes was done in research Southern Illinois University's student run newspaper, The Egyptian and later the Daily Egyptian in order to find what issues matter to students. Interviews with locals and alumni were also conducted.
