Orville K. Sweet, a native of Texas, received his B.S. (1948) and M.S. from the University of Oklahoma. Sweet then taught vocational agriculture, managed a beef cattle ranch, and was a beef specialist at the University of Georgia. He served as President (1963-1979) of the American Polled Hereford Association and as the executive vice-president (1979-1989) of the National Pork Producers Council. Sweet has authored books on livestock and pork.
