Osborn, Luther, 1843-1923.

Captain Luther Osborn was quartermaster of Company "H" of the 22nd U. S. Colored Infantry. The regiment was organized at Philadelphia, Pa. in January, 1864. It was attached to U.S. Forces, Yorktown, Va., Dept. of Virginia and North Carolina, and 18th Army Corps, 25th Corps, and Dept. of Texas. The regiment took part in the operations in Virginia in 1864-1865, including occupation of Richmond, the obsequies of President Lincoln, and pursuit of the assassins. In May 1865, it was moved to Texas and was on duty along the Rio Grande until October 1865. Mustered out October 16, 1865.

Luther Osborn, a native of Oak Hill, NY, moved to New York City in 1861 where he worked as a printer at various newspapers and was active in the Republican clubs. In April 1862, he enlisted in the 93rd Regiment of New York Infantry in April 1862. In 1862 and 1863, he fought Peninsular, Antietam, Frederickburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg campaigns. In January 1864 he was appointed First Lieut. Co. G. of the 22nd Regiment of Colored Infantry and later served as quartermaster of Company "H". The regiment took part in the operations in Virginia in 1864-1865 and in May 1865 was moved to Texas and was on duty along the Rio Grande until October 1865 when it was mustered out. In 1866, Osrbonr traveled from Texas to New York, working at various newspapers in Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. In 1868, he moved to Minneapolis, Minn. In 1878, he moved to Glyndon, Clay County, Minn. where he edited Red River Valley News until 1919 when he left for California to live with his daughters Dorothy W.W. McKenna and Katherine Osborn. Luther Osborn died in Los Angeles in 1923 and was buried in Glyndon, Minn.
