Stucky, J. A. (Joseph Addison), 1892-1979
Variant namesJoseph Addison Stucky was a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and received his medical training at the University of Louisville. He practiced in Lexington, Kentucky, eventually specializing in ophthalmology and otolaryngology. In 1911, Stucky conducted a clinic for trachoma victims at the Womens' Christian Temperence Union Settlement School (later Hindman Settlement School) in Knott County, Kentucky. This medical work led to the operation of a U.S. Public Health service trachoma hospital at Hindman from 1913 to 1916 and and at Pikeville in Pike County, Kentucky for some time beginning in 1916.
