Sarah Fuller Foundation for Little Deaf Children
Variant namesThe Sarah Fuller Home for Little Deaf Children was founded in 1888 by Louisa (Mrs. Francis) Brooks of West Medford, Mass. Named for a principal of the Horace Mann School for the Deaf, the home was established to provide two- to five-year-old children with oral instruction, although some were as old as six (see Annual Report, 1889). In 1925 the residential school closed and a program of home instruction was instituted. In 1957 the foundation became affiliated with The Children's Hospital Medical Center, and its endowment continues to be used to support the Hearing and Speech Clinic.
