Educational and recreational organization for Catholic youths.
The Young Men's Catholic Association of Boston College was founded in 1875. Its aim was to establish a Catholic social organization for young men who could not attend Boston College. The name was later changed to "YMCA of Boston" to reflect the independence of the organization from the college. In 1910, the organization began offering evening classes. The courses were open to men and women of all races and religions. The YMCA of Boston closed during World World II. Over the course of its sixty-five years of operation, 60,000 members and students passed through the doors of the YMCA of Boston.
