Luke, Howard, 1923-2019
Variant namesHoward Luke is an Athabascan elder noted especially for his work in educating youth about Athabascan culture and values. Mr. Luke's Gaalee'ya Spirit Camp gives students of all ages the opportunity to explore language, math, science, athletics, computing, art and the outdoors from a Native perspective ans set within a structure of Native values. Mr. Luke is a noted Athabascan craftsman and expert on the construction of canoes, dog sleds and other traditional Athabascan hand-crafted items. Howard Luke Academy in Fairbanks, Alaska is named after Mr. Luke.
