Foster, Martha E. Bradford
Variant namesNazareth Academy, founded in 1814 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, was the first convent school west of the Appalachian Mountains. By 1822 the academy had been moved from its original location to a 237 acre farm 2 miles north of Bardstown. Many of the existing historic buildings date from 1854.
