Bernard Adolf Hantzsch

Bernard Adolf Hantzsch was born in Dresden in January 1875. An ornithologist he led the German Exploring and Scientific Expedition, 1909-1911 to Baffin Island, Canada. After taking passage in Janthina Agatha much of the expeditions supplies were lost when the ship was wrecked at the mouth of Cumberland Sound. The expedition continued and Hantzsch reached a furthest north of 68° 45' in May 1911. Hantzsch died in June 1911 and was buried by his Eskimo companions. His scientific work was published after his death
