Stephenson, James W., 1806-1838.
Son of Col. Benjamin Stephenson, he moved to Galena, Ill. in 1828 then served in the Black Hawk War, Jo Daviess County Clerk and as Senator in the Illinois legislature elected in 1834 and was a member of the Internal Improvements Commission. He was also named Register of Lands at Galena and Chicago. In 1838 he was investigated for "defalcation" or embezzling. He died that same year from tuberculosis.
