Confederate battalion which was augmented and organized into a full infantry regiment, the 25th South Carolina (Volunteer) Infantry Regiment, in July of 1862. At that time Charles Henry Simonton, who was captain of Company A of the Eutaw Battalion (11th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Battalion) and who occasionally acted as a Confederate States of America agent, was promoted to colonel and given command of the regiment. In civilian life Simonton was a Charleston, South Carolina educator, who became a judge and a South Carolina representative.
