Oscar Bruce Lane (1881-1975) was born and raised in Bainbridge, Putnam County, Indiana. He was the grand nephew of former governor and United States Senator Henry Smith Lane. Lane attended Purdue and Butler Universities. In 1902 he began teaching at Bainbridge High School and later served there as principal for eight years. During this time he passed the Indiana Bar exam and married Jessie May Gill of Cloverdale, Indiana. Lane resigned from Bainbridge High School to run his and his father's farms in Putnam County. From 1934-50 Lane served in the Indiana State Senate as a member of the Republican Party.
