Hide Profile

The Pew Charitable Trusts began to formally evaluate their grant-funded programs in 1985. Between 1985 and May 1988 outside evaluators reviewed 14 trust-initiated programs. In 1987 programmatic reviews in health policy, and youth employment and job training led to the development of new program guidelines. A series of evaluations in 1988 was conducted in preparation for the Educational Advisory Committee. Beginning in the mid-1980s, financial audits served to increase accountability. A comprehensive evaluation program was developed in the late 1980s including the newly-created position of director of Evaluation.
