Ohio. Dept. of Mental Hygiene and Correction.
The Ohio Department of Mental Hygiene and Correction was established in 1954 by combining two divisions of the Department of Public Welfare (the Division of Mental Hygiene and the Division of Correction). In 1972, Mental Hygiene split from Correction and was renamed the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation split again in 1980 to form the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
