William Albert Crouse (1843-1864), born in Frederick City, Maryland to John and Catharine Crouse was one of five children. He married Margaret Crouse before enlisting in the Federal Army as a Private in Company C of the 1st Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade, Maryland Cavalry. At the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 14, 1864, he was taken prisoner and transported to Camp Sumter in Andersonville, Georgia. Crouse died in Andersonville Prison due to diarrhea on September 6, 1864. Additional biographical information about William A. Crouse has not been determined.
