McCance, Henry J., b. ca. 1811
Henry J. McCance was born around 1811, and worked as a businessman in Belfast, Ireland. In the summer of 1849, he traveled to France with some acquaintances. Upon his return to Belfast, he became involved in the local textile industry. In 1851, he accompanied his friend David Douglas to New York City, arriving in June onboard the Africa .
