The Mabel, a 188-ton ship, built in Bath, Maine, in 1877, by Brown & Hodgkins. Its home port was New Bedford, Massachusetts. Edmund Kelley was the master and William Lewis was the managing owner and agent. In 1881, the Mabel embarked on its second recorded whaling voyage and returned to port in 1882. According to the crewmen's agreements, the voyage ended in San Francisco, California not New Bedford, Massachusetts.
