Robert W. "Bob" Stevens (1918-2003) was born and raised in Minnesota. Following service in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he became a commercial airline pilot and spent most of his 34-year career flying all around Alaska. After retirement, he devoted his time to exploring, photographing, and writing about Alaska's people, culture, wildlife, and natural beauty. In 1990 he published the two-volume "Alaskan Aviation History, 1897-1930." (From obituary, Anchorage Daily News, 29 July 2003, p. B7.)
