Sgt. Major Albert M. Anderson was born in Scottdale, Pennsylvania on November 2, 1873 to David G. Anderson and Hester A. Morrow. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 2, 1898, serving with the recruiting party in Pittsburgh. Upon transfer in January 1899 to Columbus Barracks, Ohio he was assigned to the 17th Infantry. He served in the Philippines and in Cuba during Spanish American War. During World War I he served in recruiting at Columbus Barracks. Anderson retired in 1921 and continued civil service at the Columbus General Depot.
