Brown, Reuben, 1748-1832
Variant namesSaddler of Concord, Mass. Born in Sudbury, Mass., the son of Jotham and Hepzibah Brown, in 1748; died in Concord in 1832. Came to Concord in 1770 and established himself as a saddler. Married Mary How of Sudbury in 1773. Among their children were two Reubens, one born and died in Feb. 1781, the second born in Dec. 1781, died in 1854. Brown served as lieutenant during the Revolution and was contracted to outfit several companies (an undertaking that cost him $1,000 out of pocket). On Apr. 19, 1775, he was sent to obtain information about British activity and then to circulate.
