Hide Profile

The Roper Hospital Committee on Infections was established by the Roper Hospital Executive Committee at its meeting on October 20, 1958 in response to recommendations from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. The Committee on Infections was charged with reporting on the incidence of infection recorded by house staff and physicians. Infection Committee members made recommendations on specific cases and general hospital procedures (isolation, disposition, and readmission techniques, among others). The committee consisted of "five members of the staff representing the major services, a representative from Bacteriology, a member of the Nursing Department, Public Health Officer acting as a consultant, and such others as may be deemed essential." Dr. Thomas G. Herbert served as the first chairman.
