George Snell was born on August 1, 1879, in Pekin, New York, the son of George Amos and Etta Eliza (Brown) Snell. After his father's death, his mother remarried and the family moved to a farm in Iowa. He graduated with a law degree in 1906 from the University of Michigan. On June 27, 1906, he married Jessie G. Arnott, and the couple moved to Billings, Montana. He opened law offices and later was one of the founders of the Billings Gas Company in 1922. The firm later became part of Montana Dakota Utilities Company. George Snell was a charter member of the Billings Kiwanis Club and the first Kiwanis Governor of the Montana District. He served two terms as International Vice-President and ten years as a trustee on the International Board. He was the founder and first president of the Montana Easter Seal Society, formed in 1946. For many years he served on the YMCA Board, and he served on the Board of Eastern Montana College from 1935 to 195l. George Snell died on September 28, 1971, at the age of 92.
