The Midwest Sociological Society was formed in 1936 to promote the professional interests of sociologists in the middle west. The Society grew along with the post-WWII boom in higher education and became the largest regional group of sociologist by the late 1970s. The Society began to deposit its records with the State Historical Society of Iowa in 1963.
